Onyx wins characterisation support contract
Will supply Nuformix with a stand-alone service
Onyx Scientific, a UK active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturer, has become one of drug development company Nuformix’s exclusive supply partners.
The solid state team at Sunderland-based chemistry specialist Onyx Scientific is now working closely with virtual company Nuformix, which designs research programmes focused on the optimisation of drug solid form.
Nuformix, headquartered in Redcar, initially needed to obtain robust data in order to understand and progress its development programmes. It sent representative samples to Onyx Scientific to test on its behalf and report back to assist development work.

After using its complementary equipment and integrated approach on the project, Nuformix has officially appointed the contract chemistry specialist as its exclusive provider of characterisation support.
Denise Bowser, commercial director at Onyx Scientific, said the firm’s strategy to move into solid state chemistry is helping pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients that need it as a stand-alone service, such as Nuformix, and others that require a fully integrated chemical development and GMP manufacturing service.
‘The team at Nuformix had a very specific solid state requirement and a tight deadline but this is where our business tends to excel. We are delighted to be working with Nuformix and expect to assist them on other projects to help with their ongoing development activities,’ Bowser added.
Onyx Scientific works with companies in Europe and the US to accelerate candidates from discovery, through development, into Phase I/II GMP API manufacturing.
