Exhibitors covering the full range of products and services for the pharmaceutical industry, from processing to packaging technology, from raw materials to clean rooms through to engineering services, will be at the first edition of Pharmintech 2004 that will be running in Bologna between 8 and 11 June. The Chemical Pharmaceutical Generic Association (CPA) will also be present with its own Pavilion.
Various conferences, workshops and seminars have been scheduled in collaboration with, Ipack-Ima srl, and the sponsorship of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Government. The programme is aimed at offering visitors a unique opportunity for viewing and discussing the latest developments in the sector as well as future prospects.
Issues that will be discussed at Pharmintech include:
Monday 7 June, "A comparison of documents of the chief standards and regulations agencies governing the production of pharmaceuticals under aseptic conditions". This important conference is scheduled for the day before the official opening. Organised by the Italy Chapter of the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), the conference deals with the vital issues confronting one of the sectors where scientific requirements are especially demanding, focusing on the similarities and differences between the standards and regulations under Annex 1 of the European Current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP) and those under the FDA's Guideline Asepting Processing document. Speakers will include James P. Agalloco, a renowned expert of aseptic processing.
Tuesday 8 June, "Pharmaceutical Packaging" . The seminar, promoted by the Italian Affiliate of The Society for Life Science Professionals (ISPE), offers the opportunity of discussing the latest developments and future prospects in the sector, with an overview of technical issues and standards.
The "Baseline Pharmaceutical Packaging" guidelines drafted in collaboration with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and due for publication by ISPE in September 2004 shall also be presented.
Wednesday 9 June, "A challenge for improving the quality of life". Run by Farmindustria, the Italian Pharmaceuticals Industry Association, this seminar analyses outlooks in the health sector, the response of the scientific community to growing social expectations and demand for health, and associated economic prospects. The implications of on-going changes in age population trends with the increase in numbers in the upper-age brackets will also be examined. The conference will attempt to draw a clear picture of the current situation and expectations for the future in relation to developments in the pharmaceutical sector and to whatever may contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of personal wellness. Viable economic scenarios and opportunities for health-related industries will also be discussed.
Thursday 10 and Friday 11 June. "Technology and innovation: winning factors for industrial growth". Given the complexity of the issues to be dealt with, the seminar will be run over two sessions. Speakers include representatives from the Pharmaceuticals Industry Association (AFI), the Italian National Association for Automation (ANIPLA), the Society for Life Science Professionals (ISPE), and the Italian Association of Automatic Packing and Packaging Machinery Manufacturers (UCIMA) with the collaboration of the Jacobs Engineering Group. The first session, scheduled for 10 June, will be given over to the discussion of chemical production and pharmaceutical quality-related issues. Special attention will be given to the most recent machine and process quality assurance, validation, and maintenance procedures. The latest developments in the machine and systems design, engineering and manufacturing sectors will also be discussed as well as those relating to auxiliary services.
Integrated automated systems that are becoming increasingly common not only in the packaging sector but also in advanced technological processing applications, such as the Clean Room and isolators, will be the topic of discussion on Friday 11 June. The increasingly important role of outsourcing throughout pharmaceutical processing and production will be discussed at the end of the session.
