Rexam Healthcare, a subsidiary of UK packaging group Rexam, has inaugurated the €20m extension to its plant in Le Tréport, Normandy, which manufactures drug delivery systems.
The site now includes 5,200m2 of new facilities, including a 3,750m2 production unit containing a 2,900m2 cleanroom and 1500m2 of space to house maintenance workshops, the metrology department, a laboratory and new staff facilities.
The pharmaceutical packaging and medical device specialist recently introduced the Advancia pump, the development of which was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund in Normandy.
The expansion of the site, coupled with the Advancia project, will create around 50 new jobs to complement the team of almost 200 staff.
The expansion programme has been the subject of an in-depth study into its impact on the environment. Compensatory measures at an equivalent plot of land in the La Bresle valley have been put in place, resulting, for the first time, in an environmental management plan aimed at defining the requirements to restore and maintain wetland areas.
'By taking this site to the peak of technological advancement, we're further increasing Rexam Healthcare's capacity for innovation and production to ensure that it has the resources to meet the needs of its customers and to embrace new projects,' said Marc Hämel, Managing Director.
Plant Manager, Stéphane Thiaudière added: 'The new year brings the arrival of the equipment we need to manufacture next-generation products in the new facility. We design, manufacture and export our products from Le Tréport to nearly one hundred countries. These are mainly spray pumps and valves for healthcare use.'
