India's first independent and dedicated manufacturing facility for clinical trial supplies is to be launched in Mumbai later this month.

The launch of the Rubicon Clinical Trial Supply (CTS) facility is said to represent the next logical extension to the company's research facility.

At 130,000 sq ft, the facility includes a Phase I built up area of 60000 sq ft and features a formulation development laboratory. The facility manufactures solid dosage forms and its packaging facility will handle blister and bottle packs.

The site will have a comprehensive and vertically integrated portfolio of services for clinical trial material development and manufacturing in support of Phase I through Phase IV studies. These studies cover solid oral dosage forms in initial stage and other dosage forms in later stages.

The facility will be inaugurated at a ceremony on 19 August and will include a here-hour scientific session on 'Clinical Trial Supplies - Opportunities and Challenges' followed by networking lunch a Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.

"We expect decision-makers from Indian pharmaceutical industry to be present for the occasion. Additionally select pharmaceutical professionals, eminent academicians, senior members from regulatory agencies and other opinion leaders from life science industry will grace the occasion," a spokesperson from Rubicon said.

Dr Clive Wilson, a Professor of Pharmaceutics in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, will give the keynote address on the occasion.
