Sanofi and Institut Pasteur create awards to support biomedical research
Will split €480,000 among four winners
The Sanofi-Institut Pasteur Awards will give a total of €480,000 to four innovative research projects in the areas of neglected tropical diseases, vaccine innovation, drug resistance, and therapeutic approaches to ageing and regenerative medicine, which demonstrate real progress in the life sciences and provide answers to these major healthcare problems. Each award winner will receive €120,000, split €40,000 for the researcher and €80,000 to support the research.
The judging panel is composed of: Peter Agre, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, US, Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2003; Elizabeth Blackburn, University of California, San Francisco, Nobel Prize in Medicine 2009; Pascale Cossart, head of the Bacteria-Cell Interactions Unit, Institut Pasteur; Alice Dautry, president of the Institut Pasteur; Depei Liu, vice president of the Academy of Engineering of China and president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Peking Union Medical College; Robert Sebbag, vice president, Access to Medicines at Sanofi; and Elias Zerhouni, president, Global R&D at Sanofi.
‘With these awards, the Institut Pasteur confirms its commitment to the greater interest by encouraging research, notably in conditions affecting the most vulnerable populations and diseases sharply on the rise in the world,’ said Dautry.
Candidates should submit their applications by 20 April. The prizes will be awarded in November at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France.
