Shareholders approve the move


Sanofi-aventis shareholders have agreed to change the name of the French drugmaker to Sanofi, which will take place immediately.

According to chief executive Chris Viehbacher, the change will make the name simpler, while spokesman Jean-Marc Podvin added that it would make the company’s name easier to pronounce in some countries, including emerging markets where Sanofi is seeking expansion.
