Will initially employ around 50 chemist and biologists

Selvita, a drug discovery company with operations in Poland, the US and UK, has signed a contract for the lease of laboratory space in Poznan, Poland.

The new site will be located at the Wielkopolska Centre of Advanced Technologies and begin research activities this summer. The initial laboratory space will amount to 5,500ft2 (approximately 500m2), which is almost a 20% increase in space and there are 'significant extension possibilities', the firm said.

Initially, Selvita plans to employ around 50 people in Poznan – mostly chemists and biologists – gradually increasing their number going forward. The firm says that ultimately the facility in Poznan will be the 'second heart of Selvita', providing both contract services, as well as actively participating in internal R&D projects.

The Poznan facility will be Selvita's first research site outside Krakow.

'The Wielkopolska region has a fantastic scientific potential. We are fully aware that for many talented graduates from local universities, the decision to relocate to Krakow can be very difficult, and for this reason we decided to come to them,' says Miroslawa Zydron, Director of the Contract Chemistry Department and Member of the Management Board at Selvita.

'The foundation of Poznan team will be the employees coming from that region, who have already been working at Selvita for some time, in our laboratories in Krakow. Recently, we have also been also recruiting locally in Poznan,' she added.

Selvita's headquarters and the main laboratories are located in Krakow, Poland. In 2015 the firm opened subsidiaries in the San Francisco Bay area in the US and in Cambridge, UK.
