UK Drug Update - February 2003

GlaxoSmithKline has made available a follow-on pack of its product ReQuip. Each pack contains 42 x 0.5mg tablets, 42 x 1mg tablets and 63 x 2mg tablets of the dopamine agonist ropinirole. The company has also announced that it has increased the number of disks provided with the following Diskhalers and the corresponding refill packs from 14 to 15: 100µg and 200µg Becodisks; 50µg, 100µg, 250µg and 500µg Flixotide; and 200µg and 400µg Ventodisks.

Boehringer Ingelheim has launched MicardisPlus tablets containing 40mg of the angiotensin II antagonist telmisartan plus 12.5mg of the thiazide diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, or 80mg telmisartan plus 12.5mg hydrochlorothiazide.

Alpharma has marketed 10mg tablets of the antihistamine loratadine. The company has also brought out a child-resistant cap presentation of the antibiotic 125mg/5ml erythomycin oral suspension.

Lagap Pharmaceuticals has launched 10mg tablets of the antihistamine loratadine.

Cephalon has introduced 200mg tablets of the non-amphetamine wake promoter modafinil under the name of Provigil.
