UK drug update - June 2004

Almus Pharmaceuticals has added co-codamol (paracetamol and codeine) tablets 30/500mg to its range of generic products. The company has also added 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg tablets of the ACE inhibitor lisinopril, and 2.5mg tablets of the thiazide diuretic bendroflumethiazide to its range of products.

Alpharma has introduced 2.5mg tablets of the diuretic indapamide.

APS/Berk has marketed 5mg, 10mg, 20mg and 40mg tablets of the ACE inhibitor quinapril, and 3.125mg, 6.25mg, 12.5mg and 25mg tablets of the alpha-beta blocker carvedilol.

AstraZeneca has brought out Nexium IV solution for injection or infusion, containing 40mg of the proton pump inhibitor esomeprazole.

Baxter Bioscience has launched Advate solution for injection containing 250 IU, 500 IU, 1000 IU or 1500 IU octocog alfa (recombinant human coagulation factor VIII produced by recombinant DNA technology in Chinese hamster ovary cells).

Baxter Healthcare has introduced Partobulin SDF intramuscular injection containing 1250 IU/mL of human anti-D immunoglobulin.

Beacon Pharmaceuticals has brought out gentamicin paediatric injection containing 10mg/mL of the aminoglycoside gentamicin.

Boehringer Ingelheim has marketed a 20µg per actuation, CFC-free formulation of its Atrovent inhaler containing the antimuscarinic ipratropium bromide.

Cytosafe has introduced Pharmorubicin solution for injection, containing 200mg/100 mL of the cytotoxic antibiotic epirubicin.

Galen has launched Kapake effervescent tablets. The compound analgesic tablets contain 500mg of paracetamol and 30mg of codeine phosphate hemihydrate.

IVAX has introduced 600mg tablets of sodium bicarbonate, 10mg and 30mg tablets of the antidepressant mianserin hydrochloride, and 3.125mg, 6.25mg, 12.5mg and 25mg tablets of the alpha-beta blocker carvedilol.

Niche Generics has added 3.125mg, 6.25mg, 12.5mg and 25mg tablets of the alpha-beta blocker carvedilol to its product range.

Sandoz has made available 5mg and 10mg tablets of the cardioselective beta-blocker bisoprolol, in packs of 28. The company has also brought out 3.125mg, 6.25mg, 12.5mg and 25mg tablets of the alpha-beta blocker carvedilol, and 20mg tablets of the 5HT reuptake inhibitor paroxetine.
