Univar completes acquisition of Basic Chemical Solutions
Mark Byrne joins Univar as chief operating officer
Chemical distributor Univar has completed its purchase of Basic Chemical Solutions (BCS), a global distributor and trader of commodity chemicals based in Redwood City, California, US.
At the close of the transaction, Mark Byrne, president and chief executive of BCS, became executive vice president and chief operating officer of Univar.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Univar, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, US says the two companies have complementary strengths that will deliver enhanced value for customers, suppliers, and employees worldwide. Univar offers a broad product portfolio, a global distribution network, and industry expertise in a wide variety of industry sectors. BCS offers bulk and mini-bulk chemical distribution.
In 2009 BCS reported sales of US$889m. Univar had sales of US$7.2bn last year.
