Z-Cube, the corporate venture arm of Zambon, and Yissum Research Development Company, the technology transfer company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, have signed an agreement for Z-Cube to develop a nanotechnology drug delivery system for the treatment of pain. Professor Elka Touitou from the Department of Pharmaceutics, Faculty of Medicine, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem invented the technology.
Under the terms of the agreement, Z-Cube will develop and commercialise the technology for pain applications and sponsor research to be conducted by Touitou and her colleagues. Z-Cube will also grant sub-licences. Yissum will receive licence fees, milestones and royalty payments.
"Our novel drug delivery system has the potential to enable relief of both mild and severe pain quickly and efficiently," said Yaacov Michlin, ceo of Yissum.
Touitou focuses on the design of novel carriers for enhanced drug absorption and efficiency. Two start-up companies have been established to develop novel pharmaceutical products based on her previously developed technologies.
