Sartorius, an international partner in life sciences research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, has opened its new 'Centre of Excellence' for bioanalytics in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The company has invested approximately USD $100m into the facility, consolidating existing sites and functions in Ann Arbor.
The facilities' offerings
The 130,000 sqft facility houses a manufacturing and services area, as well as biology labs, a warehouse, training spaces and a Customer Interaction Centre.
Within the space, Sartorius will develop and manufacture a range of bioanalytical instruments, including reagents, consumable and software solutions.
The company will also provide particle validation services, as well as producing microcarriers used in cell culture processes at the site.
Making steps towards sustainable manufacturing
The Centre of Excellence is currently seeking a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification which; if awarded to Sartorius, would be presented by ther US Green Building Council.
The sustainable features of the facility include:
- Green electric energy supply from solar panels
- 30 electric vehicle charging stations
- A storm runoff pond

The opening of our new building in the Tech Loop marks an important milestone for Sartorius in the Americas region, offering space for further expansion in the future," said President of Sartorius North America, Maurice Phelan.
Sartorius has already been present in the city for several years, after acquiring the Ann Arbor-based businesses Essen BioScience in 2017 and SoloHill in 2020. In total, around 2,600 employees work for Sartorius at 12 sites in North America.
