Norwegian plastics packaging manufacturer Polimoon, which recently acquired Plastohm, launched an airless packaging system aimed at the pharmaceutical sector.
AirFree claims to be the only one-part airless packaging solution manufactured in a single process and is the result of four years of r&d costing more than Euro 1m. It consists of a rigid external wall and collapsible, flexible inner pouch and is made using conventional coextrusion technology. It is manufactured from a range of materials with barrier properties, such as EVOH, and requires no special filling equipment.
The system can evacuate 95-97% of the contents, compared with only 86% for a conventional airless pump system filled with a viscous cream, Polimoon says. Sizes from 15-500ml are possible in a variety of bottle shapes and colours.
