Irish biotech consultancy Applied Biopharm Consulting has secured an Innovation Voucher from the Local Enterprise Office Cork North & West to collaborate with an academic partner in validating its computational platform for adeno-associated virus vector optimisation through laboratory testing

Applied Biopharm Consulting has been awarded an Innovation Voucher from the Local Enterprise Office Cork North & West to support the advancement of its artificial intelligence (AI) driven viral vector research programme.

The Innovation Voucher scheme allows Irish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to collaborate with universities and research institutes to explore innovation and address technical challenges.

Applied Biopharm Consulting stated that it intends to use this support to formally collaborate with an Irish knowledge provider to validate its computational platform for engineered viral vector optimisation through lab testing.

Following its 2024 feasibility study and IP Start Grant, the company is expanding its research and development programme focused on next-generation adeno-associated virus (AAV) engineering. Applied Biopharm Consulting's research and development programme utilises artificial intelligence, structural bioinformatics and molecular simulation techniques to analyse large datasets of protein structures and predict biomolecular interactions.

This data-driven approach aims to enhance vector targeting, improve gene delivery efficiency and guide the development of advanced biologic design strategies.

Dr Anthony Newcombe, Managing Director of Applied Biopharm Consulting Ltd, commented: "The Innovation Voucher offers an important opportunity to collaborate with academic experts and further strengthen the scientific foundations of our viral vector engineering programme."

By combining industry-based regulatory and manufacturing expertise with external research capability, we are accelerating the development of innovative viral vector technologies.

A spokesperson for the Local Enterprise Office Cork North & West added: "The Innovation Voucher scheme is designed to help innovative Irish companies access research and development expertise."

We are pleased to support Applied Biopharm Consulting as it advances its research into AI-driven viral vector engineering and we look forward to seeing the continued development of this research programme.

Applied Biopharm Consulting said the award underscores its continued investment in research and development while maintaining its core focus on supporting global biopharmaceutical clients in GMP compliance, regulatory CMC, MSAT, quality assurance and technology transfer.

The company's dual approach integrates extensive regulatory and manufacturing expertise with next-generation biologics, positioning it strongly within the evolving advanced therapies landscape.
