AstraZeneca (AZ) and The Royal Society have selected Dr Roshan Cools as one of this year's Dorothy Hodgkin research fellows. The fellowship will support Dr Cools in her work on Parkinson's disease (PD) at the University of Cambridge.
The sponsorship includes four years of guaranteed tenure, a salary, and annual research expenses of up to £11,000. Dr Cools said: 'As a female research scientist, I am delighted that the RS has initiated a fellowship scheme that is designed to encourage and recognise women in research.'
Dr Cools started her research in 1998 in Cambridge, where she is researching high-level cognitive functioning in PD and the role of dopamine, which co-ordinates actions of movement, balance and walking.
