The British Chemical Distributors and Traders Association (BCDTA) is to change its name to the Chemical Business Association (CBA) following a vote by member companies at its annual general meeting on 26 April.

The possibility of a change of name, which was voted in by over 75% of BCDTA's member companies, arose following a strategy review of 'recent and likely future developments in the chemical supply chain' by the BCDTA. The Association says that the new name reflects the fact that the activities of many of its member companies now extend beyond 'traditional distribution operations'. An official date for the name change has not yet been decided upon.

"I welcome the decision of member companies," said Brian Orange, chairman of the BCDTA. "The new name provides an inclusive identity which covers a wide range of supply chain activities and which supports the Association's future growth strategy. We can now start to implement the change to CBA name-style and branding. All member companies will receive an outline of the implementation programme as soon as it is available."

The BCDTA's members distribute over 2.3 million tonnes of chemicals with a market value of almost Euro 3bn every year. It is a member of the European Association of Chemical Distributors (FECC).
