Chiral Technologies opens 'new dimension' to chiral separation

Published: 7-Jan-2005

Strasbourg-based Chiral Technologies Europe, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daicel Chemical Industries, has launched Chiralpak IB, a new Daicel chiral stationary phase (CSP) for the analytical and semi-preparative separation of enantiomers. This is the second in a new generation of CSPs for HPLC, following the launch of Chiralpak IA in April 2004, and opens a new dimension to chiral analysis and separations, the company says.

Their main characteristic is the immobilisation of the chiral selectors, giving the user the free choice in the selection of the mobile phase. Chiralpak IB contains the same chiral selector as Chiralcel OD, one of the leading products in the market, but immobilised onto 5µm silica gel.

Chiralpak and Chiralcel columns from Daicel are widely used for chiral HPLC separations due to their broad field of application and their high loading capacity. Chiralpak IA and Chiralpak IB have been conceived as the first in a series of immobilised amylose and cellulose-derived chiral packing materials. Their introduction expands the application coverage of these polysaccharide supports and broadens the choice of mobile phases that may be used in chiral chromatography. Both chiral supports are said to show exceptional solvent flexibility in addition to excellent and complementary chiral recognition abilities.
