Material choices, for example, are limited to medical-grade options that have undergone rigorous testing for factors such as biocompatibility with the drug, sterility and zero chemical leaching.

Understanding the overall environmental impact of drug delivery devices is therefore a crucial first step to make the products more sustainable.
