Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS (EMB), a subsidiary of Bayer Technology Services and a leading supplier of microreaction technology products, has acquired a worldwide licence from Alfa Laval to market and manufacture ART reactor technology. With these millistructured plate reactors, which are used in laboratory, pilot and production plants, EMB is now the leading supplier of metal micro- and millistructured reactors and apparatus.
Micro- and millireactor technology offers substantial advantages over batch and other reactors, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to numerous other aspects, the outstanding heat transfer and simple scale-up are said to provide advantage for process intensification with respect to yield, costs and safety.
