UK businesses have the potential to save an estimated £3bn and improve their environmental performance and knowing how to achieve this will form the basis of a one-day free conference launched by Wilmington Conferences & Events in December.

Delegates will learn more about improving their business performance and reducing their consumption of raw materials through a network of presentations at the Envirowise event looking firstly at carbon management and followed by discussion from Envirowise's Simon Binyon on cutting the cost of waste through resource efficiency.

There is also a chance to learn more about initiatives that have helped to save water and reduce waste, which will be presented as case studies. The floor will then be open for questions before lunch.

Amongst the line-up of guest speakers will be Neville Hilton of world-leading pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, who will share his expertise on such topics as waste minimalisation and reduced energy consumption. Chairing the afternoon sessions on sustainable practices and profits will be Mike Murray, head of manufacturing & environment at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical industry (ABPI). He will also speak on the challenges the pharmaceutical industry faces and close the session. Representation on the day will also come from Mick Fanning who works for the National industrial Symbiosis Programme - a free business opportunity programme that delivers bottom line, environmental and social benefits. His presentation will centre on aspects of resource efficiency through creation & implementation of cross industry working.

Envirowise is to be staged at The Midland Hotel in Manchester on 5 December 2007. The event is scheduled to run from 9.45am to 4.30pm and includes lunch.
