At the EU India Business Summit on 12 October, Brian Ager, director general of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) stressed the potential for knowledge-driven industries from India and Europe, in strengthening trade relations and economic ties between the two partners.
'Today's dialogue between business and governments is of utmost importance to ensure that the conditions of both Indian and EU pharmaceutical markets offer a level-playing field conducive to pharmaceutical innovation, allowing patients to benefit from new medicines', said Ager.
Talks at the summit asserted that implementation and enforcement of strong intellectual property protection are essential for India to achieve its potential as a research base and knowledge economy, and to promote business cooperation with the EU.
'Meaningful data protection will incentivise both overseas and local companies to invest in India, increase business cooperation, and help bring to patients new medicines which will improve people's health", Ager said.
