EU ministers approve new fake medicines law
Aims to fight counterfeit medicines
The European Union (EU) Council of Ministers has formally approved the EU’s new law on fighting counterfeit medicines.
The Directive on Falsified Medicines, agreed with the European Parliament, insists that medicine packages have special safety features to help identify fakes. It also mandates a common logo for legitimate online pharmacies to tackle the Internet trade in counterfeit medicines.
In addition, it strengthens controls of the supply chain for active substances and medicine wholesalers.
