Forrotec opens centre in China

Published: 23-Sep-2001

Forrotec Corp has built an r&d centre in Hangzhou province, China, to develop blood analysers, thermostats to control the warming of liquid drugs and equipment to multiply DNA. The company expects local demand to grow in China, as both industry and academia are showing a strong interest in biotechnology. The centre has cost ¥100m (US$0.8m) and is located in the same building that houses the Japanese firm's local subsidiary. Thermo-modules produced by Forrotec in Japan can be used as components for the DNA equipment. The modules are used to cool light sources in optical communications equipment. Forrotec specialises in making magnetic fluid products for use in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, but is now developing uses in biotechnology.
