Fulcrum Pharma, the drug development and strategic outsourcing services company is opening a new office in Edinburgh, initially creating up to 12 new jobs.

Located at the Heriot-Watt University Research Park, the office will complement Fulcrum's other UK operations in Hemel Hempstead and Midhurst and its office in Strasbourg, France. It will allow the company to further develop its resources in drug development, project management and regulatory affairs.

The company chose to locate in Edinburgh with help from Scottish Development International and a £150,000 Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant. The strength and depth of the skills of the workforce in the Scottish life science sector was a key factor leading to company's decision to locate an office in Scotland.

"Fulcrum's decision to expand into Scotland is another vote of confidence in the strength of the phar-maceutical sector here," said Scottish Enterprise's senior director of operations, Jim McFarlane. The country's 13 universities currently produce around 60,000 new graduates each year with qualifications related to life sciences.
