The European pharmaceutical CMO now has access to the Middle Eastern market, while also being capable of getting its partners into the lucrative market

Irish CMO Gaelic Laboratories has established a new subsidiary in the Middle East with a new commercial arm in the UAE.

The strategic move will allow the company better access to the Middle Eastern pharmaceutical market, which has recently been touted for its rapid growth.

In 2023, the Middle Eastern pharmaceutical market was valued at around USD $24bn, with the sector predicted to skyrocket to $32bn by 2027.

Establishing a local presence

Recent regulatory changes require a Marketing Authorisation Holder (MAH) to have at least two regional establishments suitable for the importing, distribution and marketing of medical products.

This means that those who want to enter this lucrative market must invest in facilities throughout the Middle East.

To ensure its ability to operate in this emerging market, Gaelic Laboratories has established a commercial arm within the UAE that is responsible for the importing, registering, marketing and distribution of medicines across the region.

The company has also opened the Gaelic Drug Store in Dubai, which will enable the company to market its generics in the region, while also allowing it to partner with other companies who want to access the Middle Eastern market.

“Gaelic Laboratories is a European manufacturer that has recognised the potential value of the Middle East market,” stated General Manager of Gaelic Laboratories, Brian Morrisey.

“Our vision has always been to be a significant player in the generic pharma industry through the production of our own Beta-Lactam products, as well as contract manufacturing and testing services. Now, we are pleased to add a new service offering, as MAH partners for other high-quality pharma companies wanting to register and market their products in the Middle East.”

Mohammed Bazara, Executive Committee Member, added: “We had a lot of great meetings at CPHI Middle East last month, and our strategic investment in Dubai has been widely recognised as an opportunity for partnerships internationally. Our message is simple: Do you want to access the Middle East market? If so, Gaelic Laboratories can help!”

Gaelic Laboratories' Scientific Office has a full team of experts who are able to manage access to the Middle Eastern market — including regulatory consultants who are well versed in the requirements of local authorities.
