Higher rewards for Japanese researchers

Japanese company Takeda Chemical Industries has set aside a budget of ¥150m (US$1.3m) to bolster its rewards to researchers who develop top-selling drugs. Takeda, which introduced a financial compensation system in 1998, will step up its efforts to reward researchers as rival firms follow with their own bonus programmes. The company first decides the total financial compensation for a specific product, and then distributes the amount among researchers according to the degree of their contribution.
