IMA, the Italian manufacturer of pharmaceutical packaging machines has acquired, through its subsidiary IMA Life, a majority shareholding in PharmaSiena, a company that designs and produces filling machines for ampoules and syringes in aseptic environments.
The deal is worth around Euro 1.3m and IMA Life, which has taken a 51% stake, has the possibility of buying a further 19% of PharmaSiena over the next three years.
PharmaSiena, based in Siena, Italy was founded in 1997. The company had sales of €1.5m in 2008.
As a result of the acquisition, IMA says it has completed its range of systems for liquid filling in aseptic environments.
Alberto Vacchi, chairman and md of IMA, said: "The acquisition of PharmaSiena confirms the group's desire to continue growing externally, despite the difficult macroeconomic scenario."
He added: "PharmaSiena's activity integrates perfectly with that of IMA Life, which is a leader in liquid and powder filling machines in aseptic and non-aseptic environments. The technical and marketing synergies that will be generated by integrating this new company will enable PharmaSiena to grow, increasing its market share."
