An Indian-born woman, who went on to become a doctor in immunology in Scotland, has become one of eight winners crowned at the recent Lloyds TSB Northern Jewel Awards.
The recent event, which recognises the contribution of Asian people across the region, spanning business, education, politics and the charity sector, is now in its sixth year.
Dr Rabinder Buttar, president and ceo of ClinTec International, was named The Business & Commerce Excellence Jewel Award winner for her contribution to the pharmaceutical sector. She was educated in Scotland and gained a PhD in Immunology from Strathclyde University. Backed by a decade of experience with a host of pharmaceutical giants, Buttar went on to establish ClinTec International, a clinical research organisation with special expertise in developing drugs in oncology. She was joined by an entrepreneurial trio, which launched Apple Healthcare. The Apple Healthcare group now comprises 17 shops, with interests in two additional health centres. The total turnover has now reached £13m with a market value for the group of over £20m, including values in health centres.
