Invitrogen, a provider of essential life science technologies for disease research and drug discovery, has introduced a new policy related to its market-leading Gateway Technology. Under the Gateway Technology Open Architecture, researchers who purchase the system will be able to create and freely distribute clones within the scientific community.

The powerful cloning system can now be used to speed solutions to the acceleration of biological understanding.

Gateway Technology is a method for cloning DNA sequences and moving these sequences into multiple systems for studying genes and proteins. Since different proteins require different cellular host systems for expression, Gateway Technology makes moving a gene from one of these hosts to another effortless, saving time and providing consistency. Using the system, researchers first create an entry clone, which takes the gene of interest into the Gateway system. From this point, any number of expression clones can be created for every host system the researcher requires.
