J-PAC LLC, a US-based medical device contract manufacturer and packager, has expanded its edible film manufacturing capability. The film is finding widespread use in pharmaceuticals.
The company has installed a Doyen Thin Film Converting and Platen Sealing system capable of converting edible film into oral strips. These strips dissolve rapidly on the tongue and have become popular as OTC pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and homeopathic medicated strips.
Doyen's thin film converting line operates up to four lanes and slits and cuts hundreds of strips per minute. The strips are spaced out for platen sealing into four-side sealed single-dose sachets, which can be marked with batch numbers and expiry dates for tracking purposes.
The system, supplied by J-PAC's sister company Doyen Medipharm, operates in an environmentally controlled cleanroom, enabling the Somersworth, New Hampshire-based contract manufacturer to efficiently process delicate or brittle films.
The company already operates several Doyen rotary four-side seal machines, packaging products like wound care dressings, pads and diagnostic strips, as well as two Doyen thermoformers.
