Wendy the elephant will now have a soft skin for life. Stiefel Laboratories, of High Wycombe in the UK, has provided Bristol Zoological Gardens with enough Oilatum dry skin products to keep Wendy's skin in tiptop condition for the rest of her life.
Two years ago consultant dermatologist David de Berker and the zoo's vet Sharon Redrobe diagnosed Wendy as suffering from the skin condition hyperkeratosis. Stiefel Laboratories was contacted to provide supplies of Oilatum, a range of products specially formulated for eczema and dry skin, to try and help Wendy's condition.
Over the past two years keepers have seen an immense improvement in Wendy's skin. Redrobe said: 'Wendy's skin is looking extremely healthy. She is now much hairier, a sign that the treatment has been successful.'
