Bayer Technology Services has won a subcontract from Frings Austria, based in Graz, Austria, for the construction of a bioethanol plant for BIOHIM in Kazakhstan.

Frings is constructing Kazakhstan's first fuel ethanol plant, which will produce ethanol from wheat for blending with gasoline for combustion engines and have an annual capacity of 60,000 tons.

When burned in an engine, this environment-friendly fuel component only releases the amount of CO2 taken from the atmosphere as the plants grew, making a valuable contribution to environmental protection in transportation.

The €4.6m order is for the engineering and procurement of four distillation columns and the process control system for the complete plant. Mechanical completion is scheduled for October 2005, with start-up to follow in December 2005.
