The companies already work alongside each other as part of a global partnership

Korsch has announced the acquisition of Medelpharm, expert in compaction simulators.

Both companies have been working closely together for more than a year as part of a global strategic partnership. With the acquisition, they use more than 135 years of joint experience in the field of fully equipped tablet presses for small series production.

Korsch’s R&D product portfolio provides solutions to well-known challenges, from early materials characterisation and formulation development to predictive scale-up and production support. The joint R&D product range of Korsch and Medelpharm includes:

▪ XP 1: Robust eccentric press for the production of small batches

▪ STYL'One Nano: Benchtop compaction simulator (desk model) with integrated analysis software for the development of monolayer formulations

▪ STYL'One Evo: Sophisticated compaction simulator with integrated analysis software and multi-layer functionality, as well as the possibility of R&D applications at production speed

▪ XL 100: rotary press for the production of small series for product development and clinical batches

This R&D product line covers the full spectrum of tableting technology from one to five layer to shell core capability, making it the perfect complement to the Korsch family of multi-layer tablet presses. The STYL'One Evo can also simulate all high-speed production presses in order to obtain reliable forecasts of product behaviour with minimal use of materials.

The combined R&D product line with fully integrated dry containment (DryCon) and wash-in-place containment (WipCon) solutions offers state-of-the-art high containment technology for the entire range of OEB 3, OEB 4 and OEB 5 applications.

Like the Medelpharm Science Lab in Lyon, the KORSCH Innovation Centers in Berlin, Boston and Hyderabad also have the compaction simulators STYL'One Evo and STYL'One Nano. These are available for demonstrations, testing and predictive product trials. In addition, the Science Lab in Lyon and the KORSCH Innovation Center in Berlin offer customers support in optimising formulation, powder analysis and material characterisation.

"The incredible acceleration provided by KORSCH's business and technical network has proven that we made the right choice in entrusting our products and brand to KORSCH worldwide in 2021," said Ingrid Coyle, co-founder and Head of Business Development from Medelpharm. "Our team has always met challenges through innovative technologies and we are excited to partner with Korsch to advance the future of R&D tablet presses," added Bruno Villa, co-founder and CEO of Medelpharm.

"Medelpharm's state-of-the-art compaction simulators are a perfect addition to Korsch's R&D product line, and we warmly welcome the highly capable Medelpharm team to the Korsch family. We look forward to using our combined expertise and experience to create and deliver market-leading technologies for product development," said Stephan Mies, CEO of Korsch.
