Loma unveils new Axis power

UK-based inspection specialist Loma Systems has upgraded the software of its AXIS X-ray inspection system to give even more accurate detection of faulty product and sensitivity to contaminants. Unlike a conventional checkweigher, which provides only an overall weight for the pack, the mass measurement software of the AXIS X3 means the machine is able to weigh individual tablets or capsules within a blisterpack to an accuracy of 0.1g. It is also significantly faster, capable of inspecting and weighing product at speeds of up to 600 packs/minute. The system is designed to recognise product changes automatically and adjust its settings accordingly.

The technology relies on a highly stable linear array to scan a product hundreds of times a second as it passes through the aperture and produce an X-ray image. When an abnormal density is detected, it is highlighted on the image and the product is rejected for quality assurance analysis.

The increased sensitivity of the array gives greater image detail and better results are achieved from computer processing.
