Lonza has acquired Algonomics of Gent, Belgium for an undisclosed sum. Contract research organisation Algonomics provides integrated immunogenicity prediction services to support the development of biotherapeutics.

Switzerland-based Lonza has acquired all Algonomics shares, including its proprietary Epibase, Epibase IV and Tripole technologies, as well as the existing services business.

Epibase and Epibase IV help to solve the problems of unwanted immunogenicity seen in many biopharmaceuticals. Tripole adds further advanced in silico predictive services to Lonza's offering and complements the AggreSolve platform offered by Lonza Advanced Protein Technologies.

"By combining the Algonomics" immunogenicity screening platforms with Lonza's advanced protein technologies such as AggreSolve, a comprehensive solution is offered for the design and optimisation of biologics. The integrated group will assist Lonza's business partners to generate better and more effective protein therapeutics and vaccines," said Philippe Stas, ceo of Algonomics.

The integration of Algonomics and its workforce of 12 people started today. Stas will join Lonza and continue to head the acquired business.
