Medis International, a Czech contract manufacturing organisation (CMO) based in Prague, has completed the construction of a new pharmaceutical packaging plant in Bolatice, near Opava, just nine months after work on the 2,700m2 site began.

The CMO said the facility would provide primary and secondary packaging services for pharmaceutical solid and liquid oral dosage forms, including tablets and capsules.

Medis has installed an Uhlmann high-speed blistering line, a B1240/1647, which allows blistering of tablets and both hard and soft capsules in all types of foils, including PVC, PP, PVC/PVDC, PVC/Aclar and Alu/Alu blisters. The company says the unit will save its customers both time and money.

Medis business development manager Petr Bulej said US Food and Drug Administration and European Union approved good manufacturing practice (cGMP) accreditation is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2009.
