UK company Millbrook Scientific Instruments has broadened its product range through the acquisition of Cambridge-based Aquila Instruments in a deal worth around £100,000 (€146,700).
The acquisition brings to Millbrook complementary new technology already proven in the market place.
While the Millbrook MiniSIMS performs surface chemical analysis with great sensitivity, Aquila's desk-top instruments are specifically designed to provide precision measurement on thin film surface coatings. The Aquila system enables important data, such as refractive index, extinction coefficient and layer thickness, to be measured in a single operation usually taking less than 15 minutes.
Aquila Instruments will be run as a subsidiary of Millbrook Scientific Instruments. David Lovering will remain as managing director of Aquila and will be appointed a director of Millbrook.
