A new set of priorities for the chemical industry has been revealed by the Chemical Industries Association (CIA).
Its 'Policy Priorities' booklet argues that the correct public policy framework can help the chemical industry to continue to be productive and innovative, and to work sustainably.
The priorities announced include:
• a supportive trading environment
• a flexible labour market and social system system
• effective health and safety, and environmental regulation
• better land use planning and appreciation of societal risk
• appropriate interventions and instruments to tackle climate change
• education and training regimes that support a knowledge-based industry
• support for innovation
• a workable EU Chemicals Policy
Judith Hackitt, director general, CIA, said: '2005 is important in political terms in the UK and EU, with changes pending and new agendas being developed. Given this situation, we wanted to highlight our efforts to achieve a truly sustainable industry, and emphasise how the development of fit-for-purpose, coordinated public policy can support us in our aims.'
