Dr Colman Casey has been appointed as non-executive director of Avecia Biologics. Casey has years of experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and was most recently general manager of Schering Plough's Brinny facility in Ireland.
"We are delighted that Dr Casey has agreed to join Avecia as non-executive director," said Steve Bagshaw, president Avecia Biologics. "His experience will be hugely beneficial as we continue our growth and take a number of projects through process validation into commercial manufacture."
Casey is a director of the University College Cork Education/Training Partnership and he will retain these duties in alongside his new role at Avecia.
Dr Koen Hellendoorn has been appointed head of business development for Europe. Hellendoorn joined Avecia in April 2005 as business development manager covering Benelux, Germany and Israel. He will be responsible for leading the European business development team and key account management. Prior to joining Avecia he was director of global technology alliances with Cambridge, UK-based Biovation.
