NextPharma, a European provider of product development, contract manufacturing and cold chain and logistics outsourcing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, is to build a new cold chain and logistics (CLS) warehouse in Werne, Germany.
The facility will have 15,800m² of warehouse and 1,000m² of office space. The buildings comprise two fire sections, seven conventional docks, one jumbo dock and one insulated dock. The facility will have temperature monitoring (under floor heating, hot-air blowers and air conditioning).
The warehouse is scheduled to be operational by August 2010. It will have wholesaler authorisation and a manufacturing licence for manual re-packaging, bundling and labelling of secondary packaging.
Initially the warehouse will employ more than 40 people and house up to 19,000 euro-pallets; this will later be expanded to 26,000 euro-pallets.

The Werne facility will include a narrow isle warehouse (+15°C to +25°C) with a start-up capacity of approximately 12,000 euro-pallets; cold storage (+2°C to +8°C) for around 2,000 euro-pallets and 250 pallets for controlled drugs (+15°C to +25°C).
Replenishment capacity of approximately 2,000 euro-pallets will be available in the dispatch area.
Picking areas will include pick-by-light and scan technology. All processes are controlled via radio frequency and barcode scanning. Batch tracing is supported and controlled by a warehouse management system (WMS)
NextPharma's pre-wholesaling business delivers directly to pharmacies, hospitals, doctors, sales representatives and wholesalers.
Logistics services include importation, receipt of goods, storage, order administration, processing of returns, pick, pack, ship/dispatch, accounting, invoicing and debt collection.
NextPharma Logistics" central location for trans-shipment is in Bielefeld, Germany.
The company also has facilities in Waltrop, Germany; Stockerau, Austria; Turbenthal, Switzerland and San Diego, US.
