The RKN e1 for healthcare applications does not require the use of dry ice

United Cargo is the first US airline to make the Envirotainer RKN e1 temperature-control container available to its customers.

The RKN e1 was approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in July 2014.

United Cargo is working with Envirotainer to complete the requirements necessary to accept the RKN e1 from customers shipping temperature-sensitive shipments via its TempControl service as soon as possible.

The Envirotainer RKN e1 is a forkliftable LD-3 size unit designed to meet the requirements of the healthcare industry. Unlike other Envirotainer units now accepted by United Cargo, the RKN e1 does not require the use of dry ice. Both electrical heating and compressor cooling are powered by internal nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. These can be recharged from 0% to 100% in eight hours using standard AC power.

‘We are very pleased to provide our customers another specialised option for the worldwide transport of their temperature-sensitive shipments,’ said Mary Tussing, United Cargo’s Manager of Specialty Sales.

‘Leasing options comparable to those for other TempControl containers will be offered to United Cargo customers.’
