Optima, PulPac and PA Consulting have partnered to industrialise PulPac's dry moulded fibre blister packaging.
The trio aim to facilitate the scalability of dry moulded fibre packaging production, while also improving the sustainability credentials of pharmaceutical packaging.
PA Consulting will bring its development expertise to the table, while Optima will leverage its bespoke machine building capabilities to successfully commercialise PulPac's packaing solution.
There has been a substantial incease in market demand for eco-friendly alternatives to the standard plastics used in blister packaging in recent years, and Optima's novel machinery will offer pharma companies the opportunity to utilise such technologies at scale.
The companies also focused on making the blister packaging cost-effective, so pharmaceutical businesses can enhance their sustainability credentials without hurting their profits.
PA Consulting's Commercial Lead for Dry Moulded Fibre, Keith Thornley, commented: "To make progress in developing products like blister packs, they must be manufacturable at scale. We're excited to work with PulPac and Optima to develop specialised machinery that will enable the high-volume production of complex Dry Molded Fiber products, driving significant advancements in the industry.”
Optima’s Director of Fiber Solutions, Dominik Bröllochs, added: “As a one-stop-shop partner for fibre-based packaging, we not only bring our expertise in customised machines to this collaboration, but also our curiosity to push the boundaries of what is possible in the field of sustainable packaging. By integrating optimised solutions for specific Dry Molded Fiber applications, such as the right barrier, we are setting
new standards for sustainable products, meeting the demand of brand owners and converters.”
The Chief Operations Officer of PulPac, Viktor Börjesson, concluded, "We have proven that Dry Molded Fiber can be used for making advanced products, but turning that potential into real-world impact requires scaling production to an industrial level. Through this collaboration, we enable brands to adopt more sustainable practices at scale — making a tangible difference in reducing reliance on non-renewable materials and promoting a circular economy.”
