Datatrak International, has signed an enterprise agreement with Otsuka Maryland Research Institute (OMRI), a division of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Corporation, a billion dollar, multinational pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Japan.

Following an extensive internal evaluation of multiple EDC (electronic data capture) vendors, OMRI selected Datatrak EDC as a preferred product suite in 2002. Over the past four months, Datatrak International has consummated two enterprise relationships, with several more currently under discussion with a variety of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Otsuka Maryland Research Institute is projecting running 9 to 10 Phase III trials, utilising EDC, in 2003. The ability of EDC to provide quality information on clean clinical data within minutes of patients being enrolled into a trial on a worldwide basis is a scalable capability that is not possible with paper methods. Furthermore, there is a growing amount of information proving that the use of EDC can allow clinical trial sponsors to accelerate their overall clinical development and therefore get their drugs and devices to market faster. These advantages support the expected progressive integration of EDC workflows into the infrastructure of clinical development departments of an increasing number of companies as evidenced by these enterprise relationships.

Datatrak benefits from enhanced visibility of future committed contracts, thus advancing beyond the 'project-by-project mentality' that currently predominates in this emerging industry. This improved visibility allows Datatrak to more predictably grow its revenue and optimize the utilisation of its hosting and operational infrastructure. The consistent working relationships that ensue between the company and the customers produce expected efficiencies in project management and data management activities.

'We are very pleased to add our third enterprise relationship in this emerging market with OMRI,' noted Dr. Jeffrey A. Green, president and ceo of Datatrak International. 'Our experiences together have been positive and this next step provides them with economic advantages above the "project-by-project mode" and assists us in planning our growth.'
