An intrepid team of staff from Tredegar-based pharmaceutical manufacturers Penn Pharma will scale new heights when they tackle some of Britain’s toughest terrain in the gruelling National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for local charity Tenovus.
The team of 11 volunteers have been training hard to prepare themselves for the challenging climb to the summits of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales, in less than 24 hours.
‘The team have trained through wind, rain and even snow,’ said Colin White, event organiser. ‘We are looking forward to taking part and are confident that the preparation we have put in will give us a successful outcome.’
The team, who will be supported by two designated drivers, will climb through the night, battle against sleep deprivation and altitude.
Richard Yarwood, Chief Executive at Penn Pharma, said: ‘The team have dedicated their time and will be pushing their minds and bodies to the limit to raise money for Tenovus, a local charity that Penn has supported for a number of years.’
This is the fifth year that Tenovus has been Penn’s corporate charity. The charity offers support, advice and treatment for cancer patients, information on cancer prevention and funding for research to improve the outcomes for people with cancer.
Penn has 30 years’ experience in successfully providing a range of services to the global pharmaceutical market and is proud to be located in the South Wales town of Tredegar. In 2012, with Welsh Government support, the company invested £14m in the business, building a world-class high containment facility. The facility enables the team at Penn to further build upon its established expertise in the manufacture of specialist drugs for the worldwide market.
The Penn Pharma Three Peaks Team can be sponsored through Virgin Money Giving; 100% of all donations will go to Tenovus.
