Dr Hubert Stueckler has taken up his position with Siegfried in Zofingen, assuming overall responsibility for the business unit Siegfried Actives. Stueckler was previously with Dutch company DSM, where he held a senior position within business development and marketing.

Merck KGaA has named Elmar Schnee as the new head of its ethicals division. Schnee joined the company in May 2003 as chairman of Merck Sante, the ethicals pharmaceuticals business of Merck in France, and took on the additional global duties of executive vice president of commercial ethicals in January 2004. For the time being he will also remain in his current positions.

Malvern Instruments has appointed Stephen Carrington to the position of product manager. He joins from MicroRheology, a company that he co-founded as a spin out from the Physics Department at the University of Bristol.

Ytron-Quadro UK has appointed Jonathan Youles as its new sales director. Youles, previously area sales manager for Hosokawa Micron, will be co-ordinating the sales teams in the UK and Ireland while developing new markets for both the Ytron and Quadro process equipment range. As part of its long-term restructuring programme, Ytron-Quadro UK has also announced the appointment of Paul Bradley as technical director, and Alison Bridge's continuation in her role as financial director.

Barry Dumble is the new managing director of Westfalia Separator, manufacturer of centrifuges and decanters for use in the industrial, food, chemical, biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Dumble has spent the last 14 years with Krauss Maffei Process Technology in Warrington, a company specialising in the supply of filtration centrifuges and dryers to the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Xceleron, the UK-based specialist CRO, has named J. Scott Tarrant as vice president, business development for North America. He will be responsible for building the company's presence there through the successful commercialisation of its Accelerator Mass Spectrometry technology to the pharma and biotechnology markets.
