United Nations' (UN) secretary-general Kofi Annan has renewed Dr Peter Piot's appointments as executive director of the joint UN programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and under secretary-general of the United Nations for four more years. Under Dr Piot's leadership, UNAIDS has become the chief advocate for worldwide action against AIDS, spearheading UN reform by bringing together 10 organisations of the UN system around a common agenda on AIDS. 'I am delighted that Dr Piot will continue to lead the response of the UN to HIV/AIDS,' said Annan.
