Professor Rolf Krebs to retire from Boehringer Ingelheim at the end of 2003

German company Boehringer Ingelheim has announced that Professor Rolf Krebs will be retiring as chairman of the board of managing directors at the end of the year.


German company Boehringer Ingelheim has announced that Professor Rolf Krebs will be retiring as chairman of the board of managing directors at the end of the year.

He will be succeeded by Dr Alessandro Banchi, currently board member responsible for pharma marketing and sales, with effect from 1 January 2004. Dr Andreas Barner, currently board member responsible for research, development and medicine, has been appointed vice chairman of the board of managing directors from the same time.

Professor Krebs joined Boehringer Ingelheim in 1989, and was initially responsible for corporate board division pharma. At the beginning of 2001, he was appointed chairman of the board of managing directors. He was also actively involved in many national and international associations; for instance, he was Chairman of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA) from 1999 to 2002.

Dr Banchi joined Boehringer Ingelheim in 1973 and has been a member of the board since 2000. He has held various key positions within the corporation, both in Europe and in the US, including overall charge of all Italian business operations. Dr Barner joined Boehringer Ingelheim in 1992 as head of the medical division. He was appointed to the board of managing directors in 1999.
