Resource Efficiency 2007, to be held on December 5 in Manchester, has been approved by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management.

The CIWM has determined that this free conference for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries may contribute one day towards a Graduate's Structured Education and Training Programme or six hours of Continuing Professional Development.

UK business could save a further £3bn through improved environmental performance and the conference will examine ways of reducing the consumption of raw materials to improve business performance and reduce environmental impact.

It will include best practice case studies illustrating resource efficiency; describe simple changes that will save money and increase profits; discuss how to lessen the impact of chemicals on the environment, reduce material use and waste and avoid the use of non-renewable resources.

Guest speakers from major stakeholders, including the ABPI, Shasun and AstraZeneca, will give an industry perspective, while environmental organisations including Envirowise, the Carbon Trust and the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) will present the business case for becoming more resource efficient.
