Rhodia, a global specialty chemicals company active in chemistry, specialty materials & services and fine chemicals, has added Xuphos, a new chiral ligand, to its comprehensive range of phosphines.

The move comes after the company recently completed the successful scale-up of the manufacture of the BINAP ligand.

Xuphos was developed in collaboration with the University of Warwick for use in the asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones, and in key components in fragrances and pharmaceuticals.

Martin Wills, professor of organic chemistry at the University of Warwick said: 'we have been working with Rhodia for over two years to create Xuphos. It provides an alternative, efficient method of synthesising chiral alcohols.'

Rhodia also partners companies in the automotive, electronics, fibers, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals markets in order to offer its customers bespoke solutions. Samples of ligands are available on request.
