Riverside Medical Packaging adds fifth thermoformer

Narrow web line allows for cost-effective tooling

Riverside Medical Packaging, a contract packaging firm based in Derby, UK, has commissioned and validated its fifth thermoforming line.

Designed and built in-house these blisterpack machines are unique to Riverside. They are narrow web, which allows for cost-effective tooling, and makes semi-rigid or flexible blisters an option for products that would otherwise be packed in less bespoke packaging formats.

The thermoforming machines have an ‘in-line’ single colour high quality printing capability, which with clever design features enables rapid tool changes and machine set-up, ensuring that this type of package is an option even for short runs.

Riverside manufactures and contract packs medical devices and is also one of the largest UK producers of medical peel pouches and sachets. The most up-to-date engineering software and equipment allows the company to design and produce all of its own packaging machinery and the tooling for blister packs and pouches.

David Shaw formed the company with his late father, Ivor Shaw, 33 years ago. It is now responsible for the packaging for more than 48 million medical devices each year, including anything from simple dressings to knee, hip and spine implants.

Riverside Medical Packaging currently employs more than 100 people.
